The technological advances in tactical lighting continue unabated.  I just received three new sample lights-one from Browning, two from Streamlight.  I will be reviewing all three in detail for an upcoming issue of Gun Digest but I wanted to give you a heads up on these.

The two new lights from Streamlight are outstanding examples of the new level of light power that is growing by leaps and bounds for the LED.  The two models, both compact are the PT2L (L for lithium power) and the PT2AA (AA for, well, you guessed it).  The PT2L is rated at 180 lumens, and the PT2AA is rated at 120-still VERY bright and well advanced over what was available even a year ago.  Both strobe with a double tap of the momentary switch.  No turning of the endcap to select it.  There is also a dim mode upon the third tap.  Even a couple of years ago, a 60 lumen LED light was considered very bright.  Anyway the PT2AA is the longer of the two lights due to its power cells (lets hear it for cheap AA batteries) and can be used as a Kubotan (remember those) control tool.  The PT2L is shorter.  Both have crenalated bezels and tail caps and can be used to augement striking techniques.  Best of all they are perfect for all day pocket carry.  Never be without your tactical light.

The Browning Flashpoint is a much larger 175 lumen 2 cell lithium light, and is also strobe capable.  Unlike the streamlights the Browning requires a tailcap twist to select the modes. What is really unique is the square beam the light projects. It is perhaps the best area illumination light out there, and is not only a fantastic outdoorsman light but also a great patrol light for illuminating and searching large areas, while still having a long range.
